Do guests need to download an app?
No. Players scan a QR code on the screen or enter a short game code on epicly.live in any phone browser. No app store, no install, no permissions, no signup. Joining takes about five seconds.
How many people can play at once?
Music Mayhem supports up to 200 concurrent players per session. That's enough for a packed pub night or a hotel function. If your venue regularly hosts larger groups, get in touch — we run higher-capacity instances for special events.
What music is in the clip library?
A curated mix across decades and genres — chart hits, rock classics, soul, hip-hop, indie, 90s/2000s anthems, recent UK chart toppers. Each round randomises selection to balance familiarity and challenge. You can also request themed nights (80s only, UK indie, Motown, etc.) on higher tiers.
What hardware do we need at the venue?
A screen or TV the room can see, a connected device to display Epicly (a laptop, a Fire Stick, an Apple TV, or a smart TV with a browser — anything that can open a web page), and venue WiFi that handles guest devices. That's it. No buzzers, tablets, or dedicated kit.
What if our WiFi drops mid-game?
Games auto-recover. Players who disconnect rejoin with the same name and rejoin the leaderboard. The host screen maintains state. We've designed for British pub WiFi specifically — it has to keep working when the signal isn't perfect.
Can we run it without a dedicated host?
Yes. The platform self-runs — rounds advance automatically, the big screen handles announcements, and the leaderboard updates live. Most venues use a member of bar staff for the first couple of weeks to build atmosphere, then let it run unattended.
How much does it cost?
Less than a pint a day. Music Mayhem is included in every Epicly subscription tier — there's no per-game charge. Full pricing on our

How does music licensing work?
Music Mayhem plays official iTunes 30-second preview clips — the same publicly available samples Apple makes available for music discovery, served directly from Apple's CDN. These play through your venue's existing audio setup like any other recorded music. As long as your venue holds standard UK pub licensing (typically PPL and PRS via TheMusicLicence — which almost all licensed premises already do for playing music to guests), public music playback is covered. Epicly is the delivery mechanism; the licensing relationship sits between your venue and PPL PRS Ltd. If you're unsure what your venue's existing licence covers, your trade association or PPL PRS Ltd can confirm.
