How it plays

Six rounds. Two Authentic-Traditional World Dishes. One Player Crowned the Foodie Connoisseur

Dish it Out doesn't ask you to cook anything. It asks whether you actually know how the world's best kitchens really do it. Every round is built around the moment someone confidently picks the wrong answer — and then learns why.

01
📱
Join
Tonight's two dishes appear on the big screen. Players join in 5 seconds on their phones — no app, no download. Pick a name and you're in.
02
🍝
Battle
Ten questions per dish. Ingredients, techniques, regional rules. Every answer is the version the top kitchens actually use — not the one in your supermarket.
03
💡
Learn
After every question, the big screen reveals not just the right answer but why. Cultural context, professional technique, the story behind the rule. Properly fascinating, properly accessible.

📖
Take Home
Game ends and every player gets the recipe cards on their phone. Save them, share to WhatsApp, post to Stories. Real techniques, every player's pocket. Sunday lunch sorted.
Why it lands

Built for the pub atmosphere, not the cookery class.

Most food content treats you like a beginner. Dish it Out treats your guests like they already think they know — and then has fun proving them right or wrong. The energy is closer to a pub argument about Liverpool than a cookery school.

🌍
Anchored to real world traditions
Every answer is the version used by top kitchens in the dish's home region — not the supermarket version, not the home-cook simplification. Rome decides what carbonara is. Naples decides what pizza is. Tokyo decides what ramen is. The authority comes from where the dish comes from.
Banter is built in
Every question is the kind of thing one mate at the table is convinced they know the answer to. They'll argue. They'll be wrong. They'll laugh. The game's premise — Dish it Out — is the question every group is already asking each other.
📖
Players take real value home
Every player leaves with two properly designed recipe cards on their phone — the same techniques the world's best kitchens actually use. Save to Photos, share to WhatsApp, post to Instagram Stories. The Epicly logo travels home with them, into the kitchen, into the conversation.
🎲
Different dishes every night
The platform rotates through Italian, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Mexican, British, and more — two different cuisines per session, never the same combination twice. Repeat players never see the same questions. Every night is a fresh learning moment.
📺
Big screen carries the room
Regional imagery rotates as the questions land — Rome streets for carbonara, Bangkok markets for pad thai, Kyoto temples for ramen. The visual journey matches the culinary one. Players feel like they're travelling, not just answering questions.
🍽️
Pairs naturally with food service
Run the game on the night you're pushing a themed menu, a tasting board, a chef's special. The game primes the room to talk about food and order more of it. Bar staff have told us guests order more starters on game nights. The connection writes itself.
Perfect for

Where Dish it Out does its best work.

🍴
Gastropubs
Food-led venues whose guests already think of themselves as foodies. This is their game. Run it on the night your chef pushes a tasting board.
🏨
Hotel restaurants
Travelling guests love a worldly food angle. The game becomes part of the dining experience, not a separate entertainment block.
🍷
Wine bars & bistros
The connoisseur audience naturally fits here. Pair the game with a regional wine flight for the dish's country. Sells itself.
🎪
Food festivals & popups
A perfect 12-minute set piece for between live demos. Crowd plays on their phones, the screen handles the show, attention stays in the room.
Questions, answered

Dish it Out FAQs.

Do guests need to download an app?
No. Players scan a QR code or enter a short game code on epicly.live in any phone browser. No app store, no install, no permissions, no signup. Joining takes about five seconds.
Where do the questions and recipes come from?
Every dish in the game is anchored to the way the world's top kitchens in its home region actually prepare it — Rome for carbonara, Naples for pizza, Tokyo for ramen, Mexico City for tacos al pastor. The questions are written from professional culinary sources, not home-cook approximations. The recipes players take home are the real technique, properly simplified for a home kitchen but unmistakably authentic.
How many people can play at once?
Dish it Out comfortably supports up to 200 concurrent players. That covers a packed gastropub, a hotel function, or a food festival popup. Players all play simultaneously — there's no turn-taking, no waiting around. Everyone answers every question on their own phone.
What dishes and cuisines are in the catalogue?
The opening catalogue covers Italian, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Mexican and British classics — carbonara, ramen, biryani, pad thai, tacos al pastor, Sunday roast, and more. Each session picks two from different cuisines, so you never get two Italian dishes in a row. The catalogue grows continually based on which dishes get the best player reaction.
Is it actually educational or just a quiz?
Both, on purpose. Every wrong answer triggers a short reveal explaining why the right answer is right — the cultural context, the professional technique, the rule the top kitchens follow. By the end of the night, even the players who scored poorly have learned the real way to make two dishes. The take-home recipe cards are the proof.
What do players take home?
At the end of the game, every player gets two beautifully designed recipe cards on their phone — one per dish, branded with the venue and Epicly. Players can save the cards to their photos, share to WhatsApp groups, post to Instagram Stories, or download as image files. The branding travels home with them, into their kitchens, into their conversations with friends. It's word-of-mouth built into the game itself.
What hardware do we need at the venue?
A screen the room can see, a connected device to display Epicly (a laptop, a Fire Stick, an Apple TV, a smart TV — anything with a browser), and venue WiFi that handles guest devices. That's it. No buzzers, tablets, or dedicated kit.
Can we theme a night around a specific cuisine?
On higher tiers, yes — Italian Night, Asian Night, British Classics Night and so on. Pair it with the chef's themed menu, a regional wine flight, or a tasting board, and the game becomes the centerpiece of the night, not a side feature. Get in touch if you're planning a themed event.
How much does it cost?
Less than a pint a day. Dish it Out is included in every Epicly subscription tier — no per-game charge. Full pricing on our pricing page. Every venue gets a free taster night to test it with real guests before committing.
