STEAL THE
wheel

Epicly's original spin-and-solve, built for the pub. Host names the teams (funny names encouraged). Players spin on their phones, guess letters, solve the puzzle. Steal mechanic punishes hesitation. Auto-rotates each round. No app needed.

How it plays

Spin. Guess. Solve. Steal.

Steal the Wheel is the Epicly game that gets pubs noisiest — because every round has one active player spinning while their whole team shouts at them. The auto-rotation means everyone takes a turn in the spotlight, and the steal mechanic keeps the opposing team locked in even when they're not up.

01
🏷️
Name the Teams
Host opens the game and names 2-4 teams (Belmont Bandits, The Spelling Lions, whatever the room shouts out). Players pick their team on their phones.
02
🎰
Spin the Wheel
Active player taps their phone to spin. Wheel animates on the big screen. Lands on a points value — or worse, a bankrupt slice that wipes their team's round score.
03
🔠
Guess a Letter
Player guesses a letter. If it's in the puzzle, the team scores (points × number of that letter in the puzzle). Player keeps the wheel. Wrong, turn passes.
04
🎯
Solve or Steal
At any point, the active player can attempt to solve the full puzzle. Right = round won. Wrong = other team can steal with one guess. Massive swings.
Why it lands

Why Steal the Wheel brings the noise.

Most pub games are quiet — phones, individual play, the room is concentrating. Steal the Wheel is the opposite. One player is up front, their team is shouting letter suggestions, the opposing team is hoping for a wrong answer. It's the game venues use to build atmosphere on a slow night.

🎡
Animated big-screen wheel
Full TV-show production — the wheel spins on the big screen, lands with a satisfying click, music cues the result. Looks like a real game show, not a quiz overlay.
🔄
Auto-rotating active player
Each round, the active player rotates automatically through the team. Quiet members get the spotlight. Loud members can't hog the wheel. Fair distribution by design.
💰
Bankrupt slices
Yes, the wheel has bankrupt slices — and yes, they wipe out a team's round score. The single most dramatic moment in any Epicly game is a team going from 800 points to 0 in one spin.
🥊
Steal mechanic
Any team can attempt to solve at any point. Get it right, win the round. Get it wrong, the OTHER team gets one guess to solve. Forces calculation: solve now or wait for more letters?
👥
Funny team names
Host enters team names at the start. Pubs invariably go with something silly. Watching "The Toilet Floor Slappers" beat "Sue's Better Half" by 50 points is the actual product.
🎙️
Host-led atmosphere
Hosts naturally fall into the game-show-host role — riffing between letters, hyping the wheel. The format gives hosts something to perform, which the best ones absolutely take.

Questions, answered

Steal the Wheel FAQs.

How does the team rotation work?
Each round, the platform automatically advances to the next player in the team. So if a team has 6 members, by round 6 everyone has been the active player once. Stops one person dominating; gets quieter members involved.
How is the puzzle generated?
AI generates puzzles on themed categories — Films, Bands, Pubs, Sports, Local Landmarks, anything you want. New puzzles every game; never the same wheel twice.
What happens if no team can solve the puzzle?
After all letters have been guessed and no team has solved, the platform reveals the answer. Round goes to the team with the highest accumulated score.
Do guests need to download an app?
No. Players scan a QR code or enter a short game code at epicly.live in any phone browser. Joining takes five seconds.
How many people can be on a team?
Teams can be 2 to ~15 each. The platform handles auto-rotation through any size — bigger teams just mean more rounds before you spin again.
What if a player isn't in the venue when their turn comes up?
Their team can nominate a substitute via the host screen. Or skip to the next member. Platform supports both.
What hardware does the venue need?
A screen the room can see (this game NEEDS a good screen — the wheel animation is the star), a connected device, and venue WiFi.
How much does Steal the Wheel cost?
Included in every Epicly subscription. No per-game charge. It's also one of the three Free Taster Night games — test it free with up to 20 players before committing.
