How it plays

Your venue is the game board. Your QR codes are the clues.

Treasure Hunt is the only Epicly game that gets people out of their seats. Staff hide QR codes around the venue beforehand — by the bar, under a specific painting, by the door to the function room. Teams scan their first code, get an AI-generated riddle, work out where to look next, and physically move through the venue racing other teams to complete the trail.

01
🗺️
Form a Crew
Teams of 3-6 form. Crew name set. Big screen displays all crews and their stats. First clue location revealed.
02
📱
Scan the Clue
Crew finds the first QR code (taped under a chair, behind a frame, on the back of the toilet door — wherever staff hid it). Scan reveals an AI-generated riddle.
03
🧩
Solve & Move
Crew solves the riddle. Riddle describes the location of the next QR code. Crew moves through the venue to find it. Repeat through 8-10 QR codes total.
04
💎
Find the Treasure
Final QR code reveals the treasure question. First crew to scan AND solve the final question wins. Time taken to complete trail breaks any ties.
Why it lands

Why physical movement changes the game.

Every other Epicly game keeps players in their seats. Treasure Hunt is the opposite — it's the format where guests are walking the venue, looking under tables, behind paintings, discovering corners of the pub they've never noticed. For larger venues with interesting architecture, that physical exploration is the actual product.

📱
QR-code scanning, no app
Players scan QR codes with their phone's built-in camera. No app to download, no platform-specific scanner. Works on any phone made in the last decade.
🧩
AI-generated riddles
Each clue's riddle is generated fresh — no two trails repeat. Riddles describe locations in your venue using AI knowledge of the spaces you've specified.
🏛️
Venue-specific
You set up the trail once for your venue — telling the platform which features your venue has (fireplace, bay window, mounted deer head, etc.). Riddles then reference those features authentically.
🏃
Physical movement
The whole game has guests moving through the venue. They discover spaces they'd never have visited, increase drink orders (passing the bar), and the social atmosphere transforms.
⏱️
Race format
First crew to complete the trail wins. Speed matters. Big screen shows live progress of each crew through the trail — third crew rounding the corner watches first crew already at the treasure.
🎯
Best for bigger venues
The bigger your venue, the better this format plays. Hotel function suites, multi-room pubs, country clubs — the physical exploration scales with the space.
Perfect for

Where Treasure Hunt does its best work.

🏨
Hotels with bars
Hotel public spaces — lobby, bar, restaurant, function rooms — give physical trail genuine length and variety.
🍴
Gastropubs with multiple rooms
Bigger pubs with snug, main bar, dining room, garden — trail can wind through all of them.
Golf and country clubs
Club houses with bar, dining, member lounges, function rooms — natural geography for a venue-wide hunt.
🎉
Function and event venues
Wedding receptions, milestone birthdays, corporate events — a venue-wide hunt is a memorable activity for groups.
Questions, answered

Treasure Hunt FAQs.

When does Treasure Hunt launch?
Currently in pre-launch development. Pilot venues are being recruited for spring 2026 — email the venue team for early access.
How long does it take to set up a hunt at our venue?
First setup: 30-45 minutes to walk your venue, identify good hiding spots, and document them in the platform. Subsequent hunts: 5 minutes to print fresh QR codes and hide them.
Do players need to download an app?
No. Players scan QR codes using their phone's built-in camera. Each scan opens an epicly.live page in their browser. No app, no install.
What if a QR code gets damaged or someone moves it?
Staff can mark any QR code as "unavailable" mid-game and the platform routes affected crews around it. Hosts get a real-time view of which codes have been scanned and which are stuck.
How many people can play at once?
Up to 40 players in crews of 3-6 (so 6-13 crews). Smaller venues might cap at 4-5 crews; larger venues can handle the full 13.
How long is a session?
30-60 minutes depending on venue size and number of clues. Most venues run 8-10 clue trails of 40-50 minutes.
What hardware does the venue need?
Printed QR codes (we provide them as PDF — print and laminate), a screen the room can see (shows leaderboard and crew positions), a host device, and venue WiFi.
How much will Treasure Hunt cost?
Included in every Epicly subscription tier at launch. No per-game charge. Existing subscribers will get it automatically when it goes live.
